I think there's something in the water
These are a few shots from the weekend. Saturday called for a little get together with some friends from work. we got a blow up pool and just hung out for the evening. Then Sunday I went to Cowan's Gap with the family for the day and got to spend some time with my younger cousins that I don't get to see as often. Great weekend. :)

Tiny Tutu
My little cousin, (the one directly below pointing) has followed in the family footsteps and has become a little tiny ballerina. These are just a few shots from her second recital. The lighting was so low, hence the graininess and the blur. I tried to make some fun out of the situation and did jumping jacks in between to stay warm in the freezing cold auditorium.

Playing catch up
these are a few shots from a story that i spent tons of time with on Dave Sagan and the Hocking Woods Nature Center. I went into the project being terrified of snakes, and after the first day of shooting, i put my camera down most of the time just to get my hands on many of the 40+ animals that he cares for on a daily basis. he houses several snakes in his home and at the nature center, as well as other reptiles such as turtles, iguanas, and other lizards. he rehabilitates animals to be released into the wild or finds a suitable home for them. the nature center even has houseplants for adoptions. it was an amazing place to spend my days. every day was an adventure.

I'm Back
I've been in a funk for a while. School has been tough and I haven't had much inspiration in the photography department. Tomorrow is the big day, Dawn 2 Dusk. Nikon came into school with all of their fancy new stuff and handed it out like miniature candy bars. It was so exciting! I was able to get a D3 and a 24-70mm 2.8 lens. I was being lazy this afternoon, then decided to play with the $6700 that I get to use for the next 2 days. It was a lot of fun comparing its superior quality to my D70s. I played with all of the buttons and settings. I have a little tiny pet turtle Stella that always comes up to whoever gets near her. I could really tell a difference between the two cameras. The pictures of her look a little magenta, but there is a purple towel under her tank. The ISO on the D3 is just as fabulous as Nikon advertises. I've already started saving up for one.

It's been a while
It has been a fast, fast quarter. So much has happened and I have gotten so far behind. The posts to come may not be in chronological order or timely in any way, but at least they made it up.

Afternoon in the Heat
I revisited a story that I worked on last spring on Wednesday. The place is the biggest greenhouse you've ever seen in you life. It goes on until you can't really see where it ends. Inside it was about 75 degrees and the sun was shining. Perfect. I wandered around and found where they do "clippings" so I could actually see some people. Apparently, there are stock plants in countries all around the equator; Kenya, Costa Rica, etc. They clip tiny pieces off these plants and mail them all over the world, including Bob's Greenhouses and Markets in Mason, WV. They take these little clippings and put them upright in a special soil mix. The clipping roots and presto change-o, you have a whole new, independent plant. I spent some time with Georgina, "Dordie", and a few of the people that she works next to. It was a fun day and I was ready to drop out of school and get a job there. The people are great and I loved the atmosphere.
